Under Iraq's pending oil law, as much as two-thirds of Iraq's known reserves would be developed by multinationals, amounting to mass theft from the Iraqi people.
"The hydrocarbon law reflects the process of readying Iraq's oil for privatisation," said Jasiewicz. "Drafted in secret, shaped by foreign powers, untransparent, undemocratic and forced through under military occupation."
Jasiewicz said the law can be regarded as the economic goal of the war and occupation and that "it will be viewed by most Iraqis as not just illegitimate, but a war crime."
I'm not really sure of what to make of all this...read the full article and tell me what you think? In My View of it, this just further proves to me that Bush had an agenda when he attacked Iraq and has a further agenda in keeping us there, a really huge pay off!

U.S. envoy: Oil control is key
Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad wrote in a commentary published Saturday in the Washington Post that “resolving concerns about control of oil is central to overcoming internal divisions in Iraq.”
Iraq’s new oil law would “serve as a vehicle to unify” the country, Khalilzad wrote.
“The goal of Iraq’s leaders was to draft a law that ensured that all Iraqis could be confident they would receive their fair share of the benefits of developing the country’s resources,” he wrote.
Iraq’s Cabinet has signed off on the law, and parliament will review the law when it reconvenes later this month.

Thanks, wish I could take credit for it :)
Hell the oil co. execs probably begged him to attack iraq, I watched a documentary today called "Corporation" and in it a stock trader was detailing how they were rooting for a war in Iraq to get the prices up on oil..nice post and good article..you get the credit for passing it along (-;
He has always been in the pocket of the big corporations, this just sickens me to think that we would allow this to happen. Thanks for reading and thanks for the great comment!
I do not think that the Western oil companies are actually behind all this. Rather, I think it is part of the factional rifting of the country apart. So while we want this and are behind it, it is more a political move than merely economic. It may be several years before any oil actually flows out to private oil companies.
Agreed that it is both political and economical, but, it certainly wasn't initiated by Iraq.
Thanks for the visit and for commenting Don.
