Domestic issues are at the forefront of this year's State Of The Union, with the U.S. economy and Congress' earmark spending practices leading the pack.
Tonight in his State of the Union Address President Bush stated that Al-Qaeda is "on the run" and that Iraq will be his "Legacy."
He was intent on reminding Congress that he is still in power for the next 358 days and that he will veto anything that comes across his desk that stands in the way of making Tax Relief permanent.
Bush also threatened to veto anything Congress earmarks as appropriations and plans to write an Executive Order that will order Congress to debate in public anything they want earmarked for appropriations and hold them to a public vote.
In the understatement of the year, Bush stated that the Economy is "in a period of uncertainty."
Bush touched on Global Warming, Education Loans and Grants for the needy as well as on Medical matters. He wants Congress to ban the selling and buying of human embryos and cloning.
He actually had the nerve to mention doing what the Constitution says while he himself has manipulated and trod on the Constitution since he became President. The ultimate in hypocrisy in my opinion!
He chastized Congress about Medicaid saying they have done nothing to ensure that this will be available for future generations.
He advocated for keeping our Border secure while at the same time allowing foreign workers to come here and support our economy.
Bush said we are adding 3200 Forces to Afghanistan in an effort to help them rebuild.
He said that the Surge in Iraq is working and that our Troops and the Iraqi citizens are performing well and working together, he continues to be optimistic on this front. He was quick to say that regardless if some think the Surge is working or not that in fact Al-Qaeda is on the run and that the terrorists know the surge is working.
He Pledged to the Troops that they would have "all they need to protect Our Nation."
He asked Congress to fully fund our Troops and to transfer their unused Education credits to their spouses or to their children.
Bush stated that 20,000 of our Troops are coming home, any further drawdown on our Troops will be based on the conditions in Iraq and the recommendations of Military Commanders.
Bushed encouraged Congress to keep funding the MCA.
Interesting to note that Bush never actually mentioned the actual 'State of the Union' until the second to the last sentence of the speech when he said he has every confidence that things will improve.
All in all this was a speech that lacked music. Now Dubya can start counting the days....what's left of them.

I could not bring myself to watch. If there was an ounce of honesty in George, the SOTU address would have consisted of one sentence:
"The state of the union is #$@^!"
Then he would exit stage right to thunderous applause, as Chris Matthews and fellow bobbleheads tripped over themselves to praise him for his bold vision and stunning clarity.
The last part is a given.
They do that every year regardless of what he says.
Some thing never change.

I often try to convince myself that I can watch Dubya... so last night I did my best to put forth a good effort to listen to what he had to say.
I lasted less than 5 minutes.
