Life As We Know It

When our lives are going well, and sometimes even when they aren't, we may find ourselves feeling very attached to the status quo of our existence--life as we know it. It is a very human tendency to resist change as though it were possible to simply decide not to do it, or have it in our lives. But change will come and the status quo will go, sooner or later, with our consent or without it. We may find at the end of the day that we feel considerably more empowered when we find the courage to ally ourselves with the universal force of change, rather than working against it.

Of course, the answer is not to go about changing things at random, without regard to whether they are working or not. There is a time and place for stability and the preservation of what has been gained over time. In fact, the ability to stabilize and preserve what is serving us is part of what helps us to survive and thrive. The problem comes when we become more attached to preserving the status quo than to honoring the universal givens of growth and change. For example, if we allow a situation we are in to remain stagnant simply because we are comfortable, it may be time for us to summon up the courage to challenge the status quo.

This may be painful at times, or surprisingly liberating, and it will most likely be a little of both. Underneath the discomfort, we will probably find excitement and energy as we take the risk of unblocking the natural flow of energy in our lives. It is like dismantling a dam inside ourselves, because most of the work involves clearing our own inner obstacles so that the river of our life can flow unobstructed. Once we remove the obstacles, we can simply go with the flow, trusting the changes that follow.

So then, this is the goal of this Blog, to liberate myself from the shackles of the mundane and dance like nobody's watching!

What are some changes you have made or would like to make? Are you satisfied with the direction your life has taken? What would you do different?

Good luck on your new Adventure!!

Hi Vice,
Yeah it was a short leave of absence. Sometimes I do things on impulse and then change my mind. I think I got tired of all the doom and gloom and it just got to me.
Hugs Vice - thanks for your support

I am happy with my life for the most part. I have my family, and I enjoy being a foster parent most of the time. I wish I could work normal hours so if I could change something it would be learning a new job that didn't require working in a 24 hour shop.

I also wish I could go back in time and not waste my first 10 years in the Navy by being drunk.

Oh, I am glad you decided to stick around. It would be boring without you.

Hi Ted,
Yeah, I couldn't stay away (sigh) Thanks for always being such a great support for me it is so appreciated.
I spent many years as a drunk too so I understand what you are saying there. I also know that you would love to be in a different job and on the day shift so you could be more with the family. You are my Hero for being a Foster Parent in case I haven't told you that already.

welcome back

thanks for making me think so early in the morning!

oh wouldnt we all do things so differently ---- and i could think of thousands of things. but at a certain point you do accept where you are and what you have been and stop regretting..

you are so right -- change is the underlying force that can motivate us to improve and go on

it has been sort of a funk lately --- work, life, the world --- calm before the storm? who knows. but i do like knowing i can weather it all (i hope )

thanks for making me think. and if i could do something different --- you know what -- i wouldnt right now --- mistakes and all

Hi Distributorcap,
Don't you hate when that happens? Having to think I mean..LOL!
How does that song go - regrets, I have a few but then again, too few to mention?
It is good to learn from mistakes but even more enviable to find yourself in that place where you wouldn't change a thing.
Thanks for the sweet welcome back :)

Hi there, just dropping by to say Hello,

I found your blog from the Big Bang Master List.

I am impressed with few politics entries that you wrote. Nice blog too.

Have a nice day.

As you may be aware, the Big Bang has eclipsed 725 sites, which is pretty amazing. I feel that the 1,000 site goal is very doable. If you haven’t updated your list in a while I would suggest doing so at http://mondaymorningpower.blogspot.com/2008/01/big-bang-master-list.html, however, that is not the reason for leaving this comment.

I have launched 2 new sites that are “link-love” based, but emphasize quality over quantity.

I believe that everyone has something to be grateful for and/or something to complain about. If you would like to participate in what could eventually be bigger than the Big Bang, please follow the appropriate link and do so: "Are You Grateful?", "Complain Complain Complain."

I have been missing you. I went through a great funk after writing about my hero on the blogswarm of March 19. Too much emotion goes into writing these blogs and when it seems like you can't go further the administration messes things up even worse.
I posted pablum for a while and think I'm ready to start my big rig up again. I like driving it to Carols Place For Peace most days so I hope the words start flowing again like that big cup of coffee we truckers live on.
If you don't get back up I can understand. I like your site and hope it's all good again soon.
