Australia frees Guantanamo convict

ADELAIDE, Australia - Confessed terror supporter David Hicks was released from an Australian prison Saturday after completing a U.S.-imposed sentence for aiding al-Qaida.

Hicks became the first person convicted at a U.S. war crimes trial since World War II after he pleaded guilty in March to providing material support to a terrorist organization.

Caught fighting with the Taliban in Afghanistan in December 2001, Hicks spent more than five years without trial at the U.S. prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, before a plea deal secured his transfer to Australia earlier this year.

Hicks had confessed to US military prosecutors to training with terrorist groups al-Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Toiba, and fighting for the Taliban in Afghanistan. He was captured among Taliban forces in Afghanistan in December 2001 and transferred to Guantanamo Bay the next month.

David Hicks was a political prisoner and never was guilty of anything. He admitted to charges in order to play 'the game.'

Leonard Peltier remains in prison although his trial remains questionable.

Both were falsely charged with crimes that have not ever been legally substantiated. The CIA and FBI alleges differently.

The CIA and the FBI were both in the wrong when both Hicks and Peltier became political scapegoats.

I met a number of inmates that had no business being in prison but they copped plea bargains in order to make the ordeal a simple one.

Crazy, huh?

And just think, at any given time, either you or me could easily end up in a legal cluster phuck just like these two men.

The law has no gender preference.

WASHINGTON - U.S.-led forces have killed one of the most important leaders of al-Qaida in Iraq, a Tunisian believed connected to the kidnapping and killings last summer of American soldiers, a top commander said Friday.
Brig. Gen. Joseph Anderson said the death of the suspected terrorist in a U.S. airstrike Tuesday south of Baghdad, and recent similar operations against al-Qaida, have left the organization in Iraq fractured.

Intelligence Estimate Says al-Qaida Intends to Attack U.S.

National Intelligence Estimate says that Al-Qaida intends to attack the United States. Does this mean that they have intentions, but not capabilities?
If you go through the NIE report, you'll notice that the word 'intent' is thrown around a lot, but the word 'capabilities' never pops up.
What's that mean?
In my View of It, we ought to know what the actual capabilities of our enemies are and not just use some crystal ball to try to figure out what their intentions are,
Democrats and Republicans both seized on the intelligence estimate to bolster their respective arguments over Iraq war policy. Republicans said the report highlights the continued need to confront al-Qaida in Iraq. Democrats say it underscores how the war in Iraq created new terrorists there while allowing al-Qaida to re-group in Pakistan.
