Bush: Iraq failure would embolden Iran

President Bush announces a halt in U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq
after July, embracing the recommendation of his top commander in the
war, Gen. David Petraeus.

That stance guarantees a heavy American military presence in Iraq for the rest of Bush's presidency as the war grinds through its sixth year.
If the "Surge" is working then what are we still doing there?
It appears that things are much the same al-Qaida is still in the picture while Iraq is making little progress toward Democracy, yet our troops continue to fight and die.
What's wrong with this picture?

Iraqis will fill US troop withdrawals: Petraeus

OWESAT, Iraq (AFP) - The impending drawdown of some 30,000 US troops from Iraq will not disrupt the "relentless" pursuit of Al-Qaeda as Iraqis are ready to take their place, says US commander General David Petraeus.

One of the dirty little secrets about Iraq is that Iraq has increasingly been ethnically cleansed. It’s sad to say, but the American Army has presided over the largest ethnic cleansing in the world since the Balkans. When people say bad things are going to happen if we leave, bad things have already happened. Whose fooling who?

Well, I hate to admit but I myself am for tracking down and eliminating Al-Qaeda...but, that is not what has or is taking place over there.
And, I hate to dissappoint you but I know this won't surprise you. They may indeed be planning to pull troops from Iraq but we are not done yet.
The guys that are over there now that were supposed to pull only one tour are already being notified that may very well be re-deployed somewhere else after this tour gets done.
Sometimes I really start to think that this truly is the Holy War of the end of time.
Of course if I were God I would have wiped all of us out long before now.
The human race never ceases to amaze me.
Thanks for keeping up the good fight.
