Iran: How far from the Bomb?

By Ray McGovern
March 2, 2007
That was one of the key questions asked of newly confirmed Director of National Intelligence Michael McConnell at a Senate Armed Forces Committee hearing on Tuesday.
"We assess that Iran seeks to develop a nuclear weapon. The information is incomplete, but we assess that Iran could develop a nuclear weapon early-to-mid-next decade.”
“When we use words such as “we assess,” we are trying to convey an analytical assessment or judgment. These assessments, which are based on incomplete or at times fragmentary information are not a fact, proof, or knowledge. Some analytical judgments are based directly on collected information; others rest on previous judgments, which serve as building blocks. In either type of judgment, we do not have “evidence” that shows something to be a fact.”
So caveat emptor.
If this is true, and Iran is 5 -10 years away from developing Nuclear Weapons, why then do we have two American aircraft carrier strike groups cruising near Iran? Why are we bullying Iran and creating all this animosity? In My View of It, this is because it has nothing to do with the development of Nuclear Weapons any more than it did when we attacked Iraq, it's all about the oil people!

Well...if Iraq's oilfields are now the property of Western oil companies, then the next step is to keep the price of oil high. What better way to do that than rattling sabers at Iran? Did you notice the price of oil has gone from just below fifty dollars a barrel in January to above sixty in February.

Come on Democrats, get tough with this administration.

I also think we need to have a National Draw A Moustache On Ann Coulter Day
