TEHRAN, Iran - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said
Iran would free the 15 detained British sailors and marines Wednesday as an Easter holiday "gift" to the British people.

The Washingtomn Post in a "Breaking News " reported this morning that Iranian Leader Says He Will Free Britons. Yet in the Iraninan Newspaper Baztab News no mention is made of a release, jsut the willingness to negotiate. Perhaps it is the time difference of that would account for this? I suppose we will just have to wait and see if the British Sailors are released or not. I didn't see anything in the NY Times this morning either about this.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad today said he had pardoned 15 British sailors seized by the Iranian military two weeks ago and would free them today to be with their families.

Baztab News is reporting:
Later he told reporters in Pakistan that “Negotiations can begin when the approach and conduct of the British will be in accordance to the rules of international law. If they behave according to these standards, then there is a good chance of negotiations.''
“This solution requires calm diplomacy and Syria is currently undertaking such calm diplomacy between the two states,'' Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem told Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Anbaa in an interview.
