Bush's rebuke by the voters.
After six years (minus a few months with the Senate) of having both houses of Congress controlled by his own party, President Bush awoke Nov. 8 to a forced awareness that his policies, especially the war in Iraq, had suffered rejection at the hands of the U.S. electorate. This is a welcome affirmation of the U.S. political system's abilities to check leaders tempted to abuse power, but the ultimate outcome and impact on public policy is far from certain.
Even after the Iraq Study Group report in December, most Republicans are still in a state of denial about just how decisively the American people have turned against the unnecessary war in Iraq. Although the president has managed to acknowledge that American isn't winning (but not losing, either!) in Iraq, he shows little sign of dramatically rethinking his disastrous approach.
Meanwhile, the Democrats have no real Iraq policy beyond criticism and investigation. And if they use their congressional majorities to enact some of their favored policies – letting the Bush tax cuts expire, increasing domestic spending, further nationalizing health care, standing pat while Social Security goes broke, and trade protectionism, they could do the country as much harm as the Republicans managed while they had power.
Angst over the axis of evil as Iraq/Iran/NorthKorea dominate U.S. foreign policy. The aftermath of the Bush administration's disastrous decision to invade Iraq and declare Iran and North Korea part of a metaphorical "axis of evil" continued to dominate U.S. foreign policy.

Honor Iraqi Calls for U.S. Withdrawal

65% of Iraqis want U.S. troops to leave immediately.
The recent State Department poll (as reported in the Washington Post) could not be any clearer. 65% of Iraqis favor an immediate pullout of U.S. troops. In Baghdad, nearly three-quarters of residents polled say that they would feel safer if U.S. and other foreign troops left Iraq.
When even those people we're trying to help have agreed so overwhelmingly that we're making the security situation worse, not better -- it's time for us to get out of there.
If you aren't willing to listen to the growing majority of Americans who favor withdrawal from Iraq, maybe you should listen to the Iraqi people -- especially when their opinions have turned so sharply against our occupation of their country.
It is time to begin bringing the troops home.

CHICAGO — A Muslim convert is in custody after authorities say he planned to set off hand grenades in a crowded Illinois shopping mall on Dec. 22 as part of a plan to wage 'violent jihad' against U.S. citizens.
After being tipped by an acquaintance of Derrick Shareef, 22, the FBI says it taped him discussing his plan to put hand grenades into garbage cans, causing clouds of shrapnel to blast shoppers in a crowded mall the Friday before Christmas. "This is a warning to those who disbelieve," he allegedly said.

Two daughters survive her: Dawn Hunt and her live-in boyfriend, Roland, of Mandeville,LA; and Melba Kovalak and her husband, Drew Kovalak, of Woodbury, MN. Three sisters, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, also survive her. Funeral services were held in Louisville, KY. Memorial gifts may be made to any organization that seeks the removal of President George Bush from office.

Perhaps the capitalistic economic system that rules Earth does not want to let you know the truth about our crashing population and that we will reach zero population growth very shortly.The true reasons why our population is crashing is we have passed our sustainable limits for both of our major food energy sources, grains and fish, as well as very quickly reaching our fresh water limits. This awareness is not what the capitalistic economic system powers that be want you to know. It would be bad for their business.

35 million people don't have enough food, 12 million of them children. America's Second Harvest, a consortium of emergency food organizations, says 25 million people sought help from it last year.
How in the world, in the "richest" Country in the World can this be an issue? I am ashamed, and apalled that our people here are starving, yet this Country sends billions of dollars in aid to Foreign Countries!

The U.S. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) turns 40 tomorrow, the day we celebrate our independence. But this anniversary will not be a day of celebration for the right to information in our country. Our government leaders have become increasingly obsessed with secrecy. Obstructionist policies and deficient practices have ensured that many important public documents and official actions remain hidden from our view.
