Kennedy Will Endorse Obama In Blow to Clinton
The Kennedy endorsement was much sought after by the Democrats but Kennedy has chosen to endorse Obama because Bill and Hillary just pissed him off by their campaign tactics particularly comments by the couple and their surrogates in South Carolina that seemed to carry racial overtones. Kennedy expressed his frustrations directly to the former president, but to no avail.
Yes, the former president is still a "rock star" in Democratic circles however he is doing the presidential prospects of his wife a good deal more harm than good.
I suppose it’s now safe to say that the days of sailing together on Nantucket Sound during the Clintons’ Martha’s Vineyard vacations are over.

Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda
A News story tonight caught my attention as an FBI Agent was saying Saddam Hussein initially miscalculated President Bush's intentions. He thought the United States would retaliate with the same type of attack as we did in 1998, not believing that we would invade. He apparently was trying to intimidate Iran so they would be afraid to attack. Makes sense to me.
We all know that we didn't invade Iraq because they had WMD's but because they had oil. Bush and his cronies couldn't wait to get their greedy little hands on all that profit.
As for Hussein, he was simply a man who knew to much and Bush had a score to settle.
In other news tonight extra police and soldiers are being deployed to the northern city to strip al Qaeda in Iraq of its sanctuaries and "incubators" there.
My question is why are we even bothering to do this? If the major Al Qaeda threat is in Pakistan why are we still screwing around in Iraq?
We are not making any headway in this 'war on terror' and we never will. There will always be Muslim Extremists ready and willing to fight and die for what they believe in. Seems to me the one thing that really pisses them off is that the US is still in their land and they want us out!

Bush fell for all the lies, as did the people who protect our (U.S.) country. The Republican Party still backs this WMD lie, and it is proof that our government had no clue about what Iraq was doing, so they all had to lie themselves. The result was a complete mess. This war must be on terror, and not in Iraq. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Bush and "his people" are full of bs. We should never vote for a Republican again.

That's the easy answer to a tough question. That way we could ignore the canisters of sarin gas we found, simply because they were not attached to the warheads we found. Then we don't have to call it wmd.
Of course, that does seem a bit hypocritical based on the fact that we do consider a person carrying a weapon and bullets to be armed, whether they are in the chamber or not.
And as for the ties to Al Qaeda, once again... that's the tough answer to believe, but easy to recite. You see, I have a hard time believing that Al Qaeda and Saddam's administration were talkin about what color turban to wear after Ramadan in those meetings they had. Yea, the ones even the Baker commission admit took place.
The thing that makes that toughest to believe?
The Baker Commission stated that there could have been no ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda because Saddam had an arrest warrant out on Al Zarqawi.
But do you remember how far out of his way Saddam went to kill his sons in law when he wanted their heads?
Then maybe you could explain why Zarqawi was lying injured in a hospital bed in Baghdad Iraq, a hospital controlled by Saddam, in his home town, with an arrest warrant on his head, untouched.
But yea, I suppose if all that adds up to you, then there was no wmd, there was no tie between Iraq and Al Qaeda, and this was all a war for oil that had nothing to do with terrorism.

I consider myself to be a Libertarian and damned proud of it.

Musharraf to West: 'We have our own brains'

WASHINGTON - President Bush and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on Thursday embraced calls for an economic stimulus package to avert recession. Bernanke said such a plan should be aimed at quickly getting cash into the hands of people, especially those with low and moderate incomes.

'Peace Now' Will Have to Publicize EU Contributions
The Knesset has passed a law requiring the publication on the internet of all contributions from foreign countries to Israeli associations.
The bill, proposed by MK Uri Ariel (National Union), stipulates that the foreign donations must be announced not only to the Non-Profit Associations Registrar, as has been the case until now, but also to the public at large, via the internet.
The bill's final Knesset readings were approved on Wednesday.The bill is designed chiefly to fight Peace Now, a far-left Israel-based organization promoting Israeli retreat to pre-1967 borders and the end of all Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria.
Peace Now is largely funded by foreign governments in the European Union.
The organization, which spends large sums of money to locate every new Israeli structure in Judea and Samaria, has effectively been on the payroll of at least three European governments, according to the Knesset Interior Committee, based on research by Israeli investigative reporter David Bedein.
In 2005, for instance, European Union countries funded Peace Now to the tune of 1.75 million shekels (some $400,000), and three times that amount in 2006.
The biggest donors were Great Britain and Norway, which are opposed to the Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria - thus that the money they give Peace Now essentially serves those governments' foreign policy interests.
Given Peace Now's surveillance activities over Israeli communities and IDF military installations in Judea and Samaria, the organization is thus "in effect spying on Israel for foreign governments," Bedein reported.
The Knesset Interior Committee confirmed in 2004 that Peace Now had received 50,000 Euros from the government of Finland to conduct intelligence activities in Jewish communities in Judea, Samaria, the Golan, Gaza and Jerusalem. The Israel Penal Code for Espionage defines “photography of sensitive areas of Israel for any foreign power” as an act of espionage, punishable by ten years imprisonment.
It was reported last month that Peace Now was suspected of setting up a financial scam to mask the European sources of its funding.
The Non-Profit Associations Registrar suspects that Peace Now used a non-profit organization called Sha'al, which supposedly dealt with educational matters, to receive and disburse millions of shekels over a period of many years.
MK Ariel said that the streaming of tremendous sums of money from foreign nations to various political non-profit associations "leads to foreign and hostile international intervention in Israeli affairs."MK Ariel's bill was originally designed to ban outright all foreign contributions to non-profit associations.
However, after protracted negotiations with government representatives, the government agreed only to back a bill requiring full transparency of the contributions.

At a press briefing this morning that touched on issues like the White House's extrajudicial wiretapping program and torture policies, the president was asked a question about Vladimir Putin's plan to hold on to power when his term as Russian president runs out.
Reporter: Mr. President, following up on Vladimir Putin for a moment, he said recently that next year, when he has to step down according to the constitution, as the president, he may become prime minister; in effect keeping power and dashing any hopes for a genuine democratic transition there ...

Who's Provoking Who?
WASHINGTON — Just hours before President Bush was to begin his trip to the Middle East, he sharply criticized Iran on Tuesday for fomenting “a dangerous situation” in an incident over the weekend in the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.
Asked whether he thought the Iranians were trying to provoke a fight with the United States by having several of their vessels confront American craft, the president said the Iranians had engaged in “a provocative act.”
“It is a dangerous situation, and they should not have done it, pure and simple,” Mr. Bush said in a brief question-and-answer session in the Rose Garden. “I don’t know what their thinking was, but I’m telling you what I think it was.”

Bush’s Twilight Year Looks Grim
WASHINGTON - If the last days of 2007 are any indication, U.S. President George W. Bush’s last year in office is shaping up as grim and lonely.
Grim, because Bush’s signature “war on terror” is nowhere near the kind of “victory” on which he had placed so much hope. Hundreds of billions of dollars from the U.S. Treasury have been spent, but the democratic transformation of the Middle East and the wider Islamic world has not materialised.
Indeed, while Bush’s Surge strategy has helped reduce violence in Iraq over the past year, his top military commanders stress that the relative peace that has been achieved to date is fragile and that prospects for national reconciliation — the Surge’s political goal — remain dim.

Peace Activists To March Before Rose Parade
PASADENA, Calif. (CBS) ― Peace activists said they intend to march down Colorado Boulevard two hours before the Rose Parade begins, calling for an end to the Iraq war and for the impeachment of the President Bush and Vice President Cheney. A group calling itself the White Rose Coalition said its members intend to march past the TV camera platforms at the Norton Simon Museum at 6 a.m. on New Year's Day. Pasadena police said they had just learned of the protest and are checking on the legality of the march. An official said the police department would make an announcement on how the protest would be handled later on Sunday.

Since political speech in traditional public forums, such as streets and parks, is afforded a very high level of first amendment protection, and blanket prohibitions of such speech are generally unconstitutional, it will be interesting to see just how this will all be handled.
In my opinion it is good to see that some people are finally taking action to show their disapproval of the current leaders of our Country and show that anger that can be harnessed to action and directed against the institutions of war and injustice, rather than anger directed against individuals as such.

In the end, corruption drives policy. Bush's friend is Musharraf, Clinton's friend was Bhutto. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. This should not have come as a surprise to anyone, a woman in power in the Middle East? Unacceptable, especially to Al-Qaeda, if that group did in fact have anything to do with this. In the final analysis, her career was an almost tawdry cycle of exile, house arrest, ascent into power and dismissal, much sound and fury and signifying little. The woman was reckless and careless of the people to be out in public so openly and unprotected so soon after her return...if ever. That's my view of it....
