How About Some Netiquette Please

I have spent most of the day surfing the web, or Blog-hopping, if you will. I am so annoyed!
Is it so difficult for people to communicate?
What the hell am I talking about you may be wondering.
Of course it's not difficult to communicate, we are Bloggers. I say bullshit!
We behave online in the rudest of ways.

Example:
You come to a Site, you click on a link, and nothing happens. What do you do? Do you just leave and flit on to the next Site or do you contact the Author to let him/her know about the broken link? I would bet that 9 out of 10 just flit on to the next site.
What would you do in real life if say, someone's slip is showing or their fly was unzipped? You would most likely tell that person. Right?

I came upon a fairly reputable and high volume Site and clicked on a link and it took me straight to a Porno Site! Now the Site I am talking about sells Newsletters and is very professional. I can only assume that no one had told them that this was an issue.
I emailed the Author/Owner through their Contact form and she was just as surprised as I was.
Can you imagine how many people have clicked that same exact link and didn't have the courtesy or the gumption to shoot off an email.
What is wrong with people today? Are we really that self-centered? I find it unbelievable that there are something like 4 million Blogs, so I would naturally assume that 4 million people Author a Blog....Hmmmm is it me?

The next time you come upon a Site and something is broken why not use the Contact link that most have so prominently displayed and contact the Author?
Wouldn't you want to know if something was broken on your Blog? I think so.
This is simple "NETIQUETTE" and if you don't know what that is, here's a link (that works) go check it out. If you aren't to damned lazy to click that is!

Here's an excerpt (in case you are too lazy):

In real life, most people are fairly law-abiding, either by disposition or because we're afraid of getting caught. In cyberspace, the chances of getting caught sometimes seem slim. And, perhaps because people sometimes forget that there's a human being on the other side of the computer, some people think that a lower standard of ethics or personal behavior is acceptable in cyberspace.
The confusion may be understandable, but these people are mistaken. Standards of behavior may be different in some areas of cyberspace, but they are not lower than in real life.

Bloggers form theory New Hampshire vote was rigged

Well, I suppose it was just a matter of time before someone, somewhere came up with this accusation...

Does the Secretary of State of New Hampshire have any idea that a key executive in the private firm that programs and "counts" 80% of the state's ballots on hackable, error-prone Diebold voting machines is a convicted narcotics trafficker?
In 1990, Ken Hajjar, the Director of Sales and Marketing for LHS Associates, and childhood friend of company owner John Silvestro, was arrested and pled guilty to charges which earned him a 12 month sentence, according to documents received via a public records request and posted this evening at BlackBoxVoting.org.

1. What did I learn? (skills, knowledge, awareness, etc.) That I'm more self aware each year I age.
2. What did I accomplish? Succeeded at a very difficult stay at home/work from home position in order to spend more time with my son. I learned how to sacrifice certain things, and accomplished a lot in doing so.
3. What would I have done differently? Finished my manuscript earlier. Why? Because it's awesome and needs more of my attention.
4. What did I complete or release? I released the idea that I had to do nothing to relax. Some other activities can be relaxing, which still accomplish something vs. sitting on my butt.
4 (cont): What still feels incomplete to me? My income! :)
5. What were the most significant events of the year past?
List the top three.
1. I finalized my last chapter of my book.
2. I started my own photography business, to supplement my small income.
3. I had some major quality time with my son.
6. What did I do right? I was there for my son, and made the choice to leave a high paying job to do so.
What do I feel especially good about? That God leads me every day. I may not follow...but I know He's there to lead if I only look to Him.
What was my greatest contribution? Being a mommy to the most amazing boy.
7. What were the fun things I did? Went on two business trips to Lexington and Louiseville.
What were the not-so-fun? My son's two hospital stays...
8. What were my biggest challenges/roadblocks/difficulties? Getting out of my own way
9. How am I different this year than last? More aware of what I need to do, vs ignoring it.
10. For what am I particularly grateful? That God never gives up on me, a sinner.
I'm grateful that He's there for me every day.

I Have Been Memed!

Wacky Mom from My Life is Murphy's Law has tagged me. The Meme is five reasons why I Blog.

1) I Blog to save my sanity - I am unable to work at present and am pretty much stuck in the house all day with no one but me and my three dogs for company. Blogging is a way for me to have some contact to the outside world and get to hear how others think about some of the things that interest me.

2) I Blog because it is a way for me to expand my horizons and to keep in tune with what's going on in the world.

3) I Blog because some things need to be talked about as in my Blog about Hepatitis C.

4) I Blog as a way to share with others and to laugh at myself. Laughter is the best medicine and this Blog reminds me that it is a crazy world.

5) I Blog just to enjoy myself and because I like to write and I think that Blogging is a great way to say things that you might not say in day to day life. Besides the fact that I am free to say whatever I want to say cause it's my Blog and this is the one place that is mine to do whatever I want to!

I have chosen to ask each of these Sites to write about the five reasons they Blog:

1. Me and My Drum
2. Musings and somesuch... that is all...
3. Failure is the Key to Success -
4. Celebrity Struck
5. Inside Rod's Head

Bill of No Rights?

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution is a part of the United States Bill of Rights. It prohibits the federal legislature from making laws that establish a state religion or prefer a certain religion (the "Establishment Clause"), prohibit free exercise of religion (the "Free Exercise Clause"), infringe the freedom of speech, infringe the freedom of the press, limit the right to assemble peaceably, or limit the right to petition the government for a redress of grievance.
Having said all this, I would refer you to a previous Post here about a blogger from ketucky: In this case the Judge refused to dismiss the charges against Gov. Ernie Fletcher.
This led to an interesting question posed by Digital Nomad:
http://sovereign-rights.blogspot.com/2007/04/would-you-risk-prison-for-blogging.html
Should we have to risk imprisonment for stating our views about Policies, politics and our Elected Official? Is this a direct violation of our First Amendment Rights? What do you think and what is the fuss all about anyway?

Federal judge denies motion to dismiss blogger's lawsuit

It was just a matter of time before this kind of thing started happening. I have been reading horror stories about Bloggers being imprisoned in other Countries because they don't enjoy the same freedoms of speech as we are blessed with here. This is a bit of a different twist on the subject but of some interest anyway.
By The Associated Press 04.03.07
FRANKFORT, Ky. — A federal judge refused to dismiss a free-speech lawsuit filed by a political commentator against Gov. Ernie Fletcher.
U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell on March 30 referred the case filed by Internet blogger Mark Nickolas to a federal magistrate to manage the exchange of evidence in the case and to conduct a settlement conference "as he deems appropriate."
The Fletcher administration blocked state employees from surfing various Internet categories, including entertainment and humor, online auctions and Web logs, known as blogs.
Nickolas, represented by the Washington-based advocacy group Public Citizen, claims in the lawsuit that the Fletcher administration singled him out, blocking access to his Web site, http://www.BluegrassReport.org.
Nickolas has used his site to criticize various politicians, including Fletcher.
The lawsuit contends the state infringed on Nicholas' rights under both the First Amendment and the equal-protection clause of the Constitution.
The state produced a list of Web sites that were blocked, in addition to the political blog. That list included religious sites, blogs operated by newspapers and one University of Kentucky Web site.

What's Up?

What's up with everyone? Things going good for you? I have two quick questions for you all.

1) Why have you not been adding yourselves to the Blog Roll down at the bottom of the page? It is quick and easy. All you need is the URL for your icon/avatar and the URL of your Site. This is free advertiseing for you so get in gear with that.

2) Why have you not joined in with the 30,000 Bloggers Campaign? We only have like 203 blogs signed up and we need 30,000! There are like 40 million blogs out there in the Blogosphere so let's get a move on with this one please. The Info for that is down at the bottom of the page also and takes like two seconds to do.

Come on People Let's get things shaking out there in the Blogosphere!

US Army bullies milblogger, invades YouTube, Flickr, del.icio.us

Noah Shachtman blogs on Wired: Danger Room...

For years, the Pentagon has come under harsh criticism its brain-dead approach to handling the media, broadly defined. From clamping down on bloggers to chucking out embedded reporters to banning digital cameras to quaking in fear of web developments, the military's press operators seemed to miss no opportunity to shoot themselves in the collective foot, repeatedly. All this, while insurgents trained potential terrorists online, advertised their martial prowess on YouTube, even sold t-shirts over the 'net.
But recently, things have begun to change. The Defense Department's Pentagon Channel started posting YouTube-esque videos. Bloggers have been called into more and more conference calls with senior leaders in Iraq and Afghanistan. Multi-National Force-Iraq set up its own YouTube channel.
Now, the Army has set up shop on content-sharing sites like Flickr, del.icio.us, and YouTube. The material is pretty awful -- like the stilted, propaganda-like reports, straight from the Armed Forces Network. It's a start, though.
But the military is a huge organization. And not everybody gets with the program, at an equal pace. A general is threatening to boot Michael Yon, the special-forces-soldier- turned-milbogger-supreme, out of Iraq -- again.
Link to full text of post.
This is a lot of Bullshit! Even for the Military. Apparently nothing is sacred anymore! Better keep a close watch on your Site Meters..Uncle Sam may be watching you as they are a Blogger friend of mine!
