From Me to You

A Politically Correct Christmas Greeting
Best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most joyous traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, but with respect for the religious persuasion of others who choose to practice their own religion as well as those who choose not to practice a religion at all;
Additionally,
a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions have helped make our society great, without regard to the race, creed, color, religious, or sexual preferences of the wishes.
(Disclaimer: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others and no responsibility for any unintended emotional stress these greetings may bring to those not caught up in the holiday spirit.)

THE GIFT

Author Unknown

T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.
I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE.
NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.
WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND.
FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.
THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT,
ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.
THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.
WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.
SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.
THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.
I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.
THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY.
THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY,
MY CORPS."
THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND SOON DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.
I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,WHISPERED,
"CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."
ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

George Bush’s Xmas Message – Barking Mad?

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the most powerful man in the world. Here’s the Bush family’s Christmas message – and what a message it is! And isn’t that ex PM Tony Blair talking to a dog?! Thankfully this isn’t a one off production, their dogs Barney and Ms Beazley have starred in a series of films, including ‘Where in the White House is Ms Beazley?’ and ‘My Barney Valentine’.

Saboma said...
Are you aware that funding has been cut for US National Parks. With that, many have been laid off from their positions. It would behoove Bush to promote the idea of romancing our young sprouts to volunteer positions their services.

In spite of the cutbacks, the USNF just recently purchased upteen dollars worth of tasers. Do those dots connect very well with you? Think Police State. Bush and Cheney are working hard toward creating more nonsense. It will be in no time before the US, Mexico, and Canada will be one unit called "The North American Union, no thanks to Cheney really pushing hard for NAFTA. We'll no longer be Americans. We'll be North American Union citizens.

spiffy, absolutely freakin' spiffy.

I would like to offer up a Christmas prayer

I would like to offer up a Christmas prayer to our friends Hankkk, LoneRange, Pedro, Spit and our other conservative posters on this NG.
Author: NuGrassDate: Dec 24, 2006 09:09
Please forgive me for being a Left wing, Socialist Liberal. I will do my best to support our President Bush from now on as he sends our troops into battle to get killed in a war for profit. After all, only profit really matters and only a few elite diserve to be rich and live comfortable lives. Everyone else is just lazy and doesn't deserve a livable wage so when Bush tries to reverse the minimum wage increase, I will try to support him. Please forgive me of all my sins and transgressions! I promise to be more pessimistic and I will start by hating all blacks, asians, jews, arabs, hispanics and any other group of people who are not white and Christian.I also promise to support the military actions ordered by anyRepuiblican President and call anyone who disaproves of those actions an unamerican and also to oppose the same by any Democratic Presidentand call those actions "wag the dog". I promise not to bitch about the Half Trillion Dollar national debt our President Bush has created and also not to worry about the collapse ofthe Dollar. I will not complain when we have to take wheel barrows full of Dollars to buy a gallon of gas or loaf of bread. I will also support our Republican leaders when the want to appoint the likes of a Pedophile to Child Protective Services, a Neocon (who never served) as head of the Pentagon, an Industrialist to head of the Dept of Interrior, and generally support any Homosexual Republican as long as they cheat on their wives with other men and are against Same Sex Marriage. So good night and good luck and a merry, merry Chirstmas to all our Right Wing Friends.

Amen
I don't believe I could add to this!

bless with your abundant grace this our Christmas tree as a symbol of joy.May its evergreen branches be a sign of your never-fading promises. May its colorful lights and ornaments call us to decorate with love our home and our world. May the gifts that surround this tree be symbols of the gifts we have received from the Tree of Christ’s Cross. Holy Christmas tree within our home, may Joy and Peace come and nest in your branches and in our hearts.

Come Reminisce with Me

Come Reminiscence with Me
Do you ever sit and wonder, what happened to Christmas's Of Yore?
When papa cut a real tree and a homemade Wreath was on the door. Mama, was in the kitchen Singing softly as she baked, cookies and pies, and even a Poor mans cake. The kids all joined in to help. With stars shining in their eyes. Sis was stringing popcorn to adorn the tree, and the little ones, with shears and paste and colored paper too make a rope so long it reached across the room! There were no ads on the TV telling you what to buy. We made a list of wishes and sent them up the flu and hoped that Santa got the note, that went from little hearts so true. No one ran a shopping cart into your shins. You made the presents that you gave, And followed your own whims.
Now a days, the kids all yell, and cry, and shout, gimmy, gimmy, gimmy. while mothers are on their cell phones and there's a plastic Santa on the chimney. Deer's and lights adorn the lawn and drummer boys galore,A plastic tree stands in the corner all grand with lights that twinkle and a star atop, that sure has been A beacon to us all. Now all we do is plug it in no trouble, after all. I do not need presents,I have everything I need.I'm just reminiscing,on the way it useto be. And want you all to realize you all mean the world to me.

Rediscovering Your Joyfulness

Holiday Blues
The holidays can trigger the blues for a lot of people. We all have associations with the music, the decorations, and the foods that are so pervasive at this time of year. We may look back on a happy childhood and feel that our present situation doesn’t measure up. On the other hand, we may be reminded of what we wanted but didn’t get as children. Either way, our real lives are unfolding in the here and now. This is a new holiday season altogether, and we can find joy in the fact that we can make it our own and let it be new. One key way to reinvigorate your holiday is to let go of feeling obligated to engage in rituals or situations that make you feel unhappy. It is easy to get lost in the trance of tradition and lose track of who you really are and what serves you as you are now. But there is a wonderful payoff if you take the time to touch base with what you really want and give it to yourself. When you take care of yourself, your capacity to give to others expands exponentially, and so does your innate joyfulness. The first step is taking time to sort through any baggage that’s nagging you. If sad memories present themselves, know that you are not alone. It is well-documented that many people suffer from depression at this time of year. The key is to face these feelings, hear them out, and fully process them so that you can be free again. Try giving yourself the space and time to consider what will be truly healing for you this year. Perhaps you’d rather go on vacation to a tropical island with friends than go back home to a dysfunctional family. Maybe you’d prefer not to exchange gifts. Maybe you want to change-up the traditional dinner fare and make something profoundly healthy or exotic. As you infuse this holiday with new energy, you will feel your blues lightening and your joyfulness steadily on the rise. Try to make this holiday season about who you are now, not what you were in the past. Enjoy!
This will really give you a HUGE! Laugh!!(Thanks Saboma!)

Health Tip: Trim Your Tree With Care

Health Tip: Trim Your Tree With Care
(HealthDay News) -- While decorating for the holiday season, keep in mind that a live tree, electric lights, and some ornaments can pose safety hazards.
Here are suggestions from the National Safety Council on how to enjoy a safe holiday:
Reduce the risk of fire by checking all light strands for broken bulbs or exposed wires.
Never plug more than three sets of lights into one extension cord, and never leave Christmas lights turned on when you're asleep or away from the home.
Don't place lighted candles near trees or other holiday decorations.
Keep breakable ornaments high up on the tree, out of reach of curious children and pets.

I don't know who they are

Saying I can't greet the crowd the way that I want to. Can't say CHRISTMAS out loud. I walk into a business place See things that I rather not see,But dare I not say CHRISTMAS And ask for a "holiday" tree. What happened to freedom of speech And living in the land of the free How can they take my CHRISTMAS money But can't say MERRY CHRISTMAS to me. Men and women have given their lives So we could still go free I wonder how they would feel At saying "HOLIDAY" TREE. Come on All let's wake up
Don't let freedom escape If they get by with doing this What else will they take. This is starting to get out of hand, And I've begun to keep track Well I've just about had enough I'M TAKING CHRISTMAS BACK. So MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL! I hope this gets all over the net If we all stand united and take freedom back
'Twill be our best CHRISTMAS YET!

No Santa...

No Santa please, we're Czechs
By Dinah Spritzer in Prague
Published: 04 December 2006
http://news.independent.co.uk/europe/article2037441.ece
The freedom-loving Czechs are again rebelling against an imperialist tyrant, although the oppressor this time is not the Kremlin but the world's favourite jolly fat man.
The Creative Copywriters' Club, a leading advertising association in the Czech Republic, has launched a campaign to eliminate the US-style Santa Claus. Its website, Anti-Santa.cz, features the Virgin Mary suckling the infant Jesus adorned in full Santa garb, replete with a pom-pom-topped hat!

Santa Gets the Sack... but there are no presents in this one
http://news.scotsman.com/opinion.cfm?id=1791202006
Paul Stokes

In a development that is truly shocking even for the 'No ho ho' miserabilist times in which we live, the normally warm and jovial Germans have banned poor old Santa from that most festive of festive scenes: the Christmas market.

Christmas,
http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/refpages/RefArticle.aspx?refid=761556859
annual Christian holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. Most members of the Roman Catholic Church and followers of Protestantism celebrate Christmas on December 25, and many celebrate on the evening of December 24 as well. Members of most Orthodox Churches around the world also celebrate the holiday on December 25. Some Orthodox Christians in Russia, Ukraine, the Holy Land (the historic region of Palestine), and elsewhere celebrate Christmas on January 7 because they follow the Julian calendar. Members of the Armenian Church observe Christmas on January 6, following the unique custom of celebrating both the birth and baptism of Christ on the same day.

The official Christmas season, popularly known as either Christmastide or the Twelve Days of Christmas, extends from the anniversary of Christ’s birth on December 25 to the feast of Epiphany on January 6. On the Epiphany, some Catholics and Protestants celebrate the visit of the Magi while Orthodox Christians, who call the feast Theophany, celebrate the baptism of Christ.

Historians are unsure exactly when Christians first began celebrating the Nativity of Christ. However, most scholars believe that Christmas originated in the 4th century as a Christian substitute for pagan celebrations of the winter solstice.
Alright since Christmas (by Hisory's best guess) oringinated in the 4th Century!
What is the problem now that the World is beginning to despise this particular Holiday? Can you say Armageddon?? This appears to me to be the beginning of the end of the World...keep right on this path and Biblical Prophecy is fullfiled!

The holiday season abounds with superstitions.

http://www.snopes.com/holidays/christmas/superstitions.asp

Origins: Christmas is a holiday steeped in superstition and folk belief. Almost every tradition we unthinkingly observe during the festive season has its roots in long-ago times, a fact we're comfortably though vaguely aware of even though very few of us modern fellows have any idea of the whys of our symbols and rituals. We know to erect a Christmas tree, for instance, but we don't know why we're supposed to, other than it looks good in our living room and gives us a place to leave presents under!

By tradition, Christmas decorations should not be erected prior to Christmas Eve, lest this visible proof of anticipation of a festival anger capricious forces. Evergreens especially (and that includes your tree) should not be brought into the house before this time. Comfort should therefore be drawn from the knowledge that greedy merchants who put up their Christmas finery in early November daily court the malicious attentions of evil spirits.

Decking the Halls: Evergreens are symbolic of enduring and renewed life, which is why decorate our homes with them at Christmastime. The fetching in of green branches is a magical rite to ensure the return of vegetation at winter's end. Our modern day Christmas tree is the centerpiece of this belief.

Fire and Light: Tradition and rituals surrounding the Yule Log

Caroling: It is hugely unlucky to send carolers away empty-handed, no matter how badly they sing. One might be a king in disguise, after all. Offer food, a drink, or a bit of money.

Food:
Christmas cakes were usually eaten on Christmas Eve in the 19th century, though it was deemed most unlucky to cut into one (or any Christmas foodstuff) before that day dawned. A portion also had to be preserved until Christmas Day itself — it wouldn't at all do to wolf the whole thing down.

Presents: Stockings are hung by the chimney in remembrance of the largesse of St. Nicholas. Out of compassion he was said to have tossed three coins down the chimney of the home of three poor sisters. Each coin fell neatly into stockings left drying by the hearth. We therefore leave our stocking out in hopes that a similar bit of good fortune will befall us.

Animals:
Farm animals are said to kneel in homage to Christ at the stroke of midnight on Christmas Eve at which time they are momentarily blessed with the power of speech. Other versions of this belief limit the gift of gab to cats. Woe to any human who overhears their conversation though — such eavesdropping is fatal!

Born on Christmas Day:
Those born on this auspicious day will never encounter a ghost, nor will they have anything to fear from spirits. They're also protected against from death by drowning or hanging, making a career of piracy on the high seas an attractive choice.

Santa's A WomanI

Santa's A Woman! I hate to be the one to defy sacred myth, but I believe he's a she. Think about it. Christmas is a big, organized, warm, fuzzy, nurturing, social deal, and I have a tough time believing a guy could possibly pull it all off! For starters, the vast majority of men don't even think about selecting gifts until Christmas Eve. Once at the mall, they always seem surprised to find only Ronco products, socket wrench sets, and mood rings left on the shelves. On this count alone, I'm convinced Santa is a woman. Surely, if he were a man, everyone in the universe would wake up Christmas morning to find a rotating musical Chia Pet under the tree, still in the shopping bag. Another problem for a he-Santa would be getting there. First of all, there would be no reindeer because they would all be dead, gutted and strapped on to the rear bumper of the sleigh amid wide-eyed, desperate claims that buck season had been extended. Blitzen's rack would already be on the way to the taxidermist.Even if the male Santa DID still have reindeer, he'd also have the transportation problems because he would inevitably get lost up there in the snow and clouds and then refuse to stop and ask for directions.Other reasons why Santa can't possibly be a man:* Men can't pack a bag.* Men would rather be dead than caught wearing red velvet.* Men would feel their masculinity is threatened... having to be seen with all those elves.* Men don't answer their mail.* Men would refuse to allow their physique to be described, even in jest, as anything remotely resembling a "bowl full of jelly."* Men aren't interested in stockings unless somebody's wearing them.* Having to do the Ho Ho Ho thing would seriously inhibit their ability to pick up women.* Finally, being responsible for Christmas would require a commitment.
